Mr. Jingles
I just got back from seeing "Mr. Jingles" -- a horror slasher from Crossbow 5 Entertainment. I've met the director once before as she talked to me about a film I had been working on in the past. Now, I finally got to see her work. I didn't get to see their first two films, "Biker Zombies From Detroit" and "Lurking Terror", but I got to see this one.
It was a good "B" horror film -- exactly like they were trying to do. Pretty much the typical slasher flick, but it was odd. I knew all of the locations, or at least their general areas. The killing scenes were done well for the most part, but I was picking out jump cuts. The audio work definitely needed consistency, and a lot of the wide shots lacked the clarity and depth the close-ups maintained.
The story was well-done for an overdone genre. It's the easiest horror plot there is, but yet, we still keep coming back to it. The camera work had some shake to it, and I assume they shot most of their shots handheld. I did find out that it was shot on an XL1s, so I have some good familiarity with the capabilities. I think they could have gotten some more interesting shots to help enhance the story if they had had more time to shoot. Their shooting schedule was only eight days.
A few things that caught my attention were some similar death scenes to "Falling Apart". While no one copied the other, its still odd to see. I kept thinking, Didn't I just shoot that last year? Alas. Falling Apart premieres in April (hopefully) and I invited the Crossbow 5 team to come check it out.
It's also fun to see people you knew in middle school and high school bearing their breasts for the camera. Always an added bonus. ;) I have no idea what Crossbow 5 plans to do with this movie, but hey, if it's under fifteen dollars, I'd buy a copy. Labels: biker zombies, mr jingles
Aftermath
I was really hoping more people who read this site would have left a memory in the comments of the previous entry. I had five. Five. I guess you all want to keep all the good stories and all the hot shit to yourselves. Fine. Whatever. Maybe I'm the only one who thought that stuff was good. Ah well.
All I've been doing is working. I'm big pimpin' now. Ha. Keep laughing, bitches. I need to get the hell out of town again. I think I may plan a full weekend in Ohio just to get out of here. I miss those people too.
I think it's about time I just took a seat in some random bar and just began drinking beer. It might just make me content in my life. Wait, that's what I already do. I'm still not content. Still not happy. Still not.
Fuck it. I'm out of here. Later fuckers.
Screw Off.
I added a Flickr feed to the site. Yeah, you like it. Yes. You do. You aren't allowed to make up your own mind.
So now, it's time for you readers to do some work. Time for you to add a little bit of content here. Even if I don't speak to you often, you should post a memory of me. It can be anything you want, it can be good or bad, just so long as it happened. If you feel like hiding behind the anonymous tag, go for it. I'll just guess at who you are.
Get to work, fuckers. Labels: memories
Best. Product. Ever.
This is, by far, the best thing I've bought in a long time:
[image removed]This thing is great. All I have to do is hit Scroll Lock twice, then the "1" or "2" key. It will switch to the other computer I have connected to it. Simple, effective, and it doesn't cause me to lose my mouse, keyboard, or monitor in the transition. It's great. Go pick one up. I got mine at Micro Center. Here is the product information from the manufacturer. Buy one, fuckers. Labels: computers, kvm
February Begins
In an effort to remind myself of things I need to do and let everyone else know the status of some things:
- Chris Kempa Barn Show DVD - I'm working on it in my free evenings.
- Demo Reel - I'll be working on that next, and I'll look to steal footage from the CKBS DVD to do it.
- The Purple Gang - Finish reading this awesome book, although so far, I liked "The Violent Years" better, but that's due to the fact that it covered more of Detroit's various gangs. Both books are great sources of interesting local history.
- Falling Apart - Talk to Mike and Steve more about the premiere which is coming up in the next few months, as well as what to do with it afterwards, genral plans.
- Character Assassination - I have to cut out the first scene's audio track and see if I can get Sinister Handshake Records to clean it up. The magic they worked on Falling Apart's audio tracks have been phenominal. Once that's done, it's just a matter of designing the case art and burning off a few for distrobution down in Virginia.
In an effort to conserve funds, I've decided to hermitize myself. So deal, fuckers. Labels: character assassination, chris kempa, demo reel, falling apart, purple gang
