HD-DVD / Blu-Ray
Well, it's done. Another media format is coming to a close -- at least in my opinion.
Blu-Ray is falling down and HD-DVD will be the reigning champ, all due to Sony's want to control the format. They are eliminating the one market that drove the internet.
While the adult entertainment industry may supposedly account for a very small percentage of sites on the web, that industry has driven the web's major advancements -- such as the technology for streaming media. In regards to DVD sales, a large portion of media that is sold is adult content, and you can gauge the media market on the porn industry.
Blu-ray takes a hit, and it's a big one -- that's for sure.

What a horrible quip! Yeah, the PS3 is probably great fun, but nobody is going to buy it just for the Blu-Ray support.
It will probably last for another, three years? HD-DVD, ten?
(1) HD-DVD will keep the market because non-tech type people think of it is as the gradual progression of DVD. The name says it all to the to the unknowing.
They have to question what blu-ray is. So based on that I can see why blu-ray will not sell.
(2) I Predict oth Blu-ray and HD-DVD will never become as popular as DVD. Everything is turning to digital media formats.
The technology that AT&T and others are currently releasing as early as this year will allow for full high definition, on demand streaming of any movie or data format. This will eliminate the need for DVD's all together. (except in "mobile" devices. But those are movie to all digital storage anyway.
Ha! The host of TWiT just backed me up.... although he didn't refer to me, but still!
Gotta love tech podcasts.
